1Stroom: Employee’s Meeting
‘GOED in GESPREK’ (Meaningful conversation)

REQUEST
Since January 1, 2018 the municipalities of Duiven and Westervoort have been merged, the civil service organization now functions under the name 1Stroom. As stepping stone for 2019 1Stroom has chosen the theme “Goed in Gesprek” (Meaningful Conversation). Various activities are attached to this, such as, for example, February is feedback month. The aim is to, with refreshed energy, continue to build on one organization and one culture, on the 1Stroom way of working (and learning).
EXECUTION
Everyone is welcomed with coffee and something yummy, after which they are invited to take their respective seat at the respective designated table (according to the routing noted on the individual badges). The afternoon is opened by the moderator, Paul Smit, who gives us a peak into the human brain in his humourful manner. How does our mind now actually function? And why is it so complicated to change? This way Paul creates an open mindset amongst the participants, setting the stage for a meaningful dialogue during the World Cafe.
THEMES
During three rounds the participants form a dialogue based on the following themes:
- Inside out
- Working from intention
- Autonomous teams
The hosts are briefed extensively beforehand on these themes so that they know exactly what is expected of them and their role as host.
The employees’ meeting, in short:
Everyone within 1Stroom has had to deal with change, something that costs a lot of energy and demands a lot from the teams. This is why it is so good to enter into a dialogue with each other. How do we form one organization out of two, making sure it works? This is what the participants really want to build on.
During the World Café it is noticeable that the participants are happy with the fact that everything is allowed to be said. At the end of the session the tablecloths are neatly folded up and taken away and everyone stays behind to talk things over whilst enjoying drinks and snacks.
Thanks a million for the professional organization! Even in the event when things didn’t quite go as expected, Novella remained calm and always came up with a solution making it a real pleasure to work with Novella. This is exactly as I have experienced it, as a collaboration.
It is with much pleasure that I look back on the World Café and I have received a lot of positive feedback, especially about Paul’s presentation!
