Project euPrevent Social Norms Approach:
Final Conference 2022
January 2022
REQUEST
Cross-border parties in the Euregio Maas-Rhine work together on good public health. Information is provided that inspires people to make healthier choices. Various sources and studies show a worrying picture of harmful consumer behavior among young people and seniors in the region. As social beings, people look at what others do. In this way, we determine for ourselves what is ‘normal’. But the image we have of the lifestyle of others is often incorrect. Information about the actual behavior of people in our environment can ensure that we change our own behavior. This is called the Social Norms Approach (SNA). At the end of this project, Novella – World Café will be asked to develop and implement the closing conference. Professionals who already apply SNA in practice or want to know more about it are welcome to attend this official closing event. The language of the meeting is English.
CONCEPT
TTwo years after the start of the Euregional project ‘euPrevent Social Norms Approach’ (SNA), we will look back on the results achieved during an online conference. And together we will look for even more practical applications of SNA. Unfortunately, this final conference is online. Novella-World Café is nevertheless developing a dynamic, interactive and educational program together with the client. The results of the research into social norms for behavior that is harmful to health, such as alcohol and drug use, but also gaming, will be discussed. Moderator Rick Koster will supervise an interactive program from the studio in Geleen. Both speakers and participants will share knowledge and experiences. We will explore how SNA can be used even more effectively in practice. At various times, participants will enter into discussions in changing groups via an online World Café and can learn from each other.
EXECUTION
The meeting starts with a film that we made on the street. We ask the target group of this project, young people and seniors, a few questions about their alcohol consumption and the expected consumption of their peers. The film can be seen below. During the day, there will be contributions from Christiane Stock from Berlin and Aude Silvestre from Liège. From the studio, table companions such as Jean-Paul Essers, Hans Dupont and Guido van Hal will discuss the benefits and possibilities of SNA under the guidance of our moderator Rick Koster. We illustrate their ideas with films and polls. In between, there are moments when participants can talk to each other in small groups. During the interactive lunch, participants can prepare a delicious lunch dish at home, while a chef demonstrates online. At the end of the session, there will of course be a digital drink after a dynamic and humorous contribution from Paul Smit.
