Collaboration on integral safety

REQUEST
The assignment is clear: organize a working session in which municipality, police, fire brigade, field of education, housing corporation and business community form a dialogue to strengthen the collaboration and to reach tangible next steps. During the World Cafe we will take a fresh look at mutual relationships, mutual expectations and the different responsibilities in order to achieve a safer Rijswijk.
EXECUTION
Rick Koster, the moderator, opens the session with a conversation with Michel Bezuijen, the mayor of Rijswijk. What is the aim of this session? What do you want to achieve today? Why is it so important to collaboratively work on integral safety? Three practical cases are presented and then discussed. What is going well; what needs attention? This information, together with the keynote speech given by Rick Koster, provides the breeding ground for the World Cafe.
THEMES
During the three rounds the participants form dialogues based on the following themes:
- Trust – what is needed to collaborate effectively?
- Innovation – what do we, together, want to renew?
- Results – what do we, together, want to achieve?
Working session, in short:
The main goal of the afternoon was to strengthen the collaboration in order to achieve a safer Rijswijk. Based on a number of tangible examples it became clear that integral safety is based on collaboration and constant coordination. A prerequisite here is getting to know each other well. The three rounds of the World Cafe provided for dynamic and meanful conversations. The plenary session at the end proved to be extremely useful in setting clear follow-up steps.
A World Cafe for a small group of participants certainly requires careful preparation, especially in order to have the goal of the session very clear so that the content fits accordingly. It was good to see that the session created connection and that tangible cases were shared. An effective working session!
